The Coast Survey Development Laboratory's Cartographic and Geospatial Technology Programs actively participates in the development of standards for the geographic community. This participation is at three levels:
- The Federal Level - The Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) Standards Working Group (SWG) and the United States Board on Geographic Names;
- The National Level - The American National Standards Institute's (ANSI) National Committee for Information Technology Standardization (NCITS)
Geographic Information Systems Committee (NCITS/L1);
- The International Level - The International Standards Organization (ISO) Geographic Information Systems and Geomatics Technical Committee (TC/211) and the International Hydrographic Organization (IHO).
