Hello Coast Survey,
As the new director, I am blown away by the tremendous effort that has gone into the Hurricane Matthew response. Our team has a number of concurrent operations underway and they have been executed without incident. I continue see thank you messages from our partners and stakeholders and wanted to highlight a few of them.
“I wanted to say thank you for all of your support over the past few days. I am very impressed that we were able to turnaround the Port to full operations within a day of Matthew and after speaking with the Pilots understand that you played a large role in that. A sincere thank you Sir.”
- David German, Senior Harbormaster Canaveral Port Authority in an email to Tim Osborn
“Thanks and great job to the team that worked hard to survey the navigation channel and aids to navigation to insure the safe transit of all vessels. Thank you USCG, NOAA, Canaveral Port Authority, Brevard County Sheriff's Office, Land and Sea Survey, tug companies and our Pilot Boat Captains and Pilots."

Ed Wernicke retired from NSD after 28 years of federal service. Ed started his NOAA career as the sole engineering technician for NOAA’s Pacific Hydrographic Party, a six-person mobile survey field unit. In the decades that followed, Ed has been the solid foundation of PHP/NRT6. Throughout that time, Ed’s work has consistently earned the confidence of his teammates, especially as he supported, trained, and kept safe generations of NOAA personnel. His ingenuity in devising improvements for vessel maintenance and survey operations will benefit navigation response for years to come.
Coast Survey's EEO & Diversity Committee is pleased to announce an upcoming workplace bullying workshop. During this workshop, you will learn to recognize workplace bullying, harassment and social aggression and gain knowledge on how to prevent these behaviors in the future. Participation in this workshops may also count toward the Training, Professional Development and Corporate Responsibility (Professional Conduct and EEO) element of your FY17 performance plans. Two sessions will be offered on-site in Silver Spring (details below). A third session will be offered via webinar for AHB, PHB, and field employees (details upcoming).
