Patrick Debroisse<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hurricane Florence came ashore along the North Carolina coast on September 14<span style=\"font-size: 13.3333px;\">, 2018,<\/span>\u00a0bringing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/aboutsshws.php\">Category 1 force winds<\/a> and substantial amounts of rain and storm surge. One of the areas affected by the storm was the United States Marine Corps\u2019 Camp Lejeune, which suffered infrastructure and waterway damage. Camp Lejeune is home to the Second Marine Division, multiple training commands, and the U.S. Coast Guard\u2019s Special Missions Training Center (SMTC). The Coast Guard uses the waters around the camp for small boat tactics training.<!--more--><br \/>\nThe SMTC submitted a request to the Office of Coast Survey in late October to investigate their training area for hazards to navigation. Ahead of the response, Lt. j.g. Patrick Debroisse, junior officer in charge of NOAA Research Vessel <em>Bay Hydro II,<\/em> traveled to Camp Lejeune to meet with the Coast Guard&#8217;s Boat Tactics Branch to understand the issues for the school, and to provide planning and logistical support.<br \/>\n<figure id=\"attachment_171623\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-171623\" style=\"width: 3072px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a style=\"font-weight: bold; font-size: 0.8125rem; font-style: italic;\" href=\"https:\/\/alb.nauticalchartsblog.ocs-aws-prod.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/camp1-scaled-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-171623 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/alb.nauticalchartsblog.ocs-aws-prod.net\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/11\/camp1-scaled-1.jpg\" alt=\"LTJG Debroisse and BMC Rootz\" width=\"3072\" height=\"1728\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-171623\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Lt. j.g. Debroisse and BMC Rootz collect and access data in the Coast Guard\u2019s training area at Camp Lejeune.<\/figcaption><\/figure><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">With the knowledge gained from the Boat Tactics Branch, Coast Survey deployed a team of hydrographers to Camp Lejeune to survey and help the Coast Guard gain confidence in commencing high speed tactical training again. The team, including\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Lt. j.g. Debroisse<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">, Robb Mowery (<\/span><em style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Bay Hydro II<\/em><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">),<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Alex Ligon (NRT-Stennis), Josh Bergeron (NRT<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">-Stennis), <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">and<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 1rem;\">Lt. j.g.
