The NOAA <a href=\"https:\/\/nauticalcharts.noaa.gov\/data\/gis-data-and-services.html#seamless-raster-nautical-chart-services\">Seamless Raster Navigational Chart Services<\/a> will be shut down on January 1, 2022. This is part of a larger NOAA program to end production and maintenance of all NOAA traditional paper and raster nautical charts that was announced in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.federalregister.gov\/documents\/2019\/11\/15\/2019-24807\/sunsetting-of-raster-nautical-charts\">Federal Register<\/a> in November 2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1882\" height=\"864\" src=\"https:\/\/nauticalcharts.noaa.gov\/updates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/RNC_TileService.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-182602\"\/><figcaption>Raster Nautical Chart Tile Service interface<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Cancellation of traditional NOAA paper nautical charts and associated raster nautical chart products, such as BookletCharts\u2122 and Raster Navigational Charts (RNC) will occur over the next four years and be completed by January 2025. More information about this overarching program to &#8220;sunset&#8221; traditional nautical chart products is available on the &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/nauticalcharts.noaa.gov\/charts\/farewell-to-traditional-nautical-charts.html\">Farewell to Traditional Nautical Charts<\/a>&#8221; web page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"744\" height=\"499\" src=\"https:\/\/nauticalcharts.noaa.gov\/updates\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/SeamlessRasterViewer.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-182603\"\/><figcaption>Seamless Raster Nautical Chart Services download menu<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The RNC tile and seamless services provide repackaged chart images that are based on the traditional nautical chart products that are being canceled. As these charts are canceled a patchwork of holes will grow within the coverage of the raster services, which will eventually render them unusable. Therefore, the RNC Tile Service and the Seamless RNC Services will be turned off early in the raster sunset program.
