Hello Coast Survey,

As we wrap up our response to Hurricane Dorian this week, I would like to express my appreciation for the hard work and dedication of the employees in our organization. This particular hurricane allowed us to demonstrate the flexibility and versatility of our response teams as we anticipated a need in southern Florida, but mobilized northward to survey in northern Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina. You can read more about our response in our blog post.

Thank you to everyone that helped coordinate the response, particularly those that were directly engaged in the response effort in the field including our navigation managers Ed Owens (acting, Mid-Atlantic), Kyle Ward (Southeast), and Louis Licate (South Florida, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands) and our navigation response teams, MIST, and augmenters including Lt. John Kidd, Lt. j.g. Collin Walker, Joshua Bergeron, Dan Jacobs, James Kirkpatrick, Howie Meyers (ERT contractor), Doug Wood, Lt. j.g. Michelle Levano, Alex Ligon, Mike Annis, Lt. Patrick Debroisse and Lt. j.g. Patrick Lawler, and Robb Mowery.

I have learned a lot about Coast Survey over the last few weeks as acting director and I’m continually impressed by the level of professionalism of this organization. My time will be ending a week earlier than expected due to travel. Capt. Rick Brennan will begin his stint as acting director on Monday, September 16.

Again, I thank you for your service to our nation, particularly as we remember those that lost their lives 18 years ago on September 11.

Capt. Liz Kretovic

Acting Director, Office of Coast Survey
Deputy Hydrographer
