Hydrographic Surveys Team meeting held in Monaco
Attendees of the fourth meeting of the Hydrographic Surveys
Project Team.
Megan Greenaway of the Hydrographic Surveys Division (HSD) attended the Hydrographic Surveys Project Team fourth (HSPT4) meeting from December 3-6, 2019, in Monaco. The objectives of HSPT are to review and update the
International Hydrographic Organization (IHO) Standards for Hydrographic Surveys (Publication No. 44) and determine if a standing project team should continue. There were approximately 25 attendees from member states, industry, and the IHO. The principle objectives at this meeting were implementing feedback from the public via the Hydrographic Services and Standards Committee (HSSC) and coming to consensus on a few contentious updates. In addition, the project team voted on a new front cover page. The United State's proposal from Coast Survey's own,
Rick Powell, of the Navigation Services Division (NSD) won! Congratulations Rick and thanks for your support.

Volunteers needed to participate in NOS Zero Waste Assessment
Marine debris collected from a beach clean up
As you may have heard during the December 3 All Hands and Employee Recognition Ceremony, the newly formed NOS Zero Waste team is working to better understand the quantities and types of wastes we are producing in every day office activities. By collecting and analyzing data from individual waste assessments, the Zero Waste Team will be better equipped to suggest waste reducing efforts that will have the greatest impact moving forward. If you are able, please consider participating in the upcoming waste assessment this January. The assessment would entail taking less than 10 minutes each day to tally, in a Google Sheet, the waste you produce for one week. You may choose any work week (five consecutive days) in January to record the items you dispose of and/or recycle during working hours. We are encouraging participation by NOAA offices across the country. If you would like to participate, please complete this
